MINEOLA, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, June 29, 2026 — As the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary, Chabad of Mineola is highlighting the importance of religious liberty and the role it has played in allowing Jewish communities to grow, practice their faith, and contribute to American society.
Rabbi Anchelle Perl, Director of Chabad of Mineola, said the milestone represents more than a historical celebration. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the relationship between America’s founding principles and the ability of Jewish families to openly maintain their traditions.
“For generations, Jewish communities around the world faced periods of uncertainty and restrictions on religious expression,” Rabbi Perl said. “The American commitment to religious freedom created an environment where Jewish life could develop openly, with communities able to establish synagogues, schools, and cultural institutions while participating fully in society.”
He noted that the ability to observe religious practices, celebrate holidays, educate future generations, and maintain cultural identity has been an important part of Jewish life in the United States.
“Appreciation for America comes from recognizing the historical significance of religious liberty,” Rabbi Perl added. “It reflects the opportunity people have had to practice their beliefs while contributing to the wider community.”
Rabbi Perl also referenced the Jewish tradition of offering prayers for the welfare of the country and its leaders, emphasizing the belief that a nation’s stability and prosperity benefit all who live within it.
He highlighted the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who often spoke about the importance of appreciating religious freedoms and using those opportunities to strengthen communities through faith, education, family values, and acts of kindness.
The anniversary, Rabbi Perl said, also represents a reminder that freedom comes with responsibility.
“True freedom is not only about personal choice,” he explained. “It is about using those opportunities to make positive contributions, support others, and help build a stronger society.”
Throughout American history, Jewish Americans have contributed across many fields, including medicine, science, education, entrepreneurship, law, public service, philanthropy, and the arts. Rabbi Perl said these contributions reflect the connection between opportunity and community responsibility.
“As America reaches this historic milestone, we express gratitude for the ability to live openly, practice our faith, and participate in the nation’s growth,” Rabbi Perl said. “A meaningful way to show appreciation is by becoming engaged citizens who support their communities and promote kindness, respect, and unity.”
Rabbi Perl concluded that the 250th anniversary provides an opportunity for Americans from all backgrounds to reflect on the values that have shaped the country.
“Each generation has a role in protecting the ideals of liberty and respect,” he said. “May the future continue to bring peace, understanding, and prosperity for communities across America.”
