Vicunha and Sonovia Partner to Advance Sustainable Denim Production with Ultrasound Dyeing Technology

Vicunha Têxtil and textile technology company Sonovia have entered into a strategic partnership to commercialize an ultrasound-based denim dyeing process designed to reduce the environmental impact of textile manufacturing.

As part of the agreement, Vicunha has acquired a 20% equity stake in Sonovia through a private investment of NIS 2.4 million. The investment supports the commercialization and global expansion of Sonovia’s ultrasound-assisted dyeing technology.

The companies say the manufacturing process uses ultrasound waves to apply indigo dye directly to yarn, eliminating the need for several conventional chemical fixing agents commonly used in denim production. According to the companies, the technology also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and energy use compared with traditional dyeing methods.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of the technology within the global denim industry. Vicunha, one of the world’s largest denim fabric manufacturers, supplies materials to a range of international apparel brands and plans to integrate the process into commercial-scale production.

Sonovia’s leadership described the partnership as an important milestone in moving the company’s textile technology from development into broader industrial use. The company specializes in ultrasound-based textile manufacturing technologies focused on improving production efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

The agreement comes as the apparel industry continues to face increasing pressure to adopt more sustainable manufacturing practices, particularly in denim production, which has long been associated with high water usage and chemical-intensive processes.

If successfully deployed at scale, the partnership could contribute to wider adoption of lower-impact textile manufacturing technologies across the global denim supply chain.
