A new clean water project by Hope Spring Water Charity is helping improve access to safe drinking water for residents of Ido-Osun, Osun State, Nigeria.
The newly completed borehole system now serves more than 400 community members who previously depended on unsafe water sources, including shallow wells, ponds, and seasonal streams. The project aims to reduce water-related health risks while improving daily living conditions for local families.
Funded through public donations connected to Charity eCards, the initiative is part of Hope Spring’s wider effort to address water poverty through sustainable water infrastructure projects across underserved communities in Africa.
Before construction began, technical assessments were carried out to identify a suitable location for groundwater access. Community members, local leaders, educators, and healthcare representatives contributed to the planning process to support long-term maintenance and ownership of the facility.
The borehole was developed with a deep water extraction system reaching approximately 120 metres underground. It includes a 1,500-litre storage tank, dedicated water collection areas, and drainage improvements designed to support hygiene and prevent contamination.
The availability of reliable clean water is expected to create positive changes for the community, including reducing exposure to waterborne diseases and improving sanitation practices. Local schools have also highlighted the benefit of shorter water collection times, allowing children to attend classes more regularly.
