Escalating hostilities across Ukraine have resulted in more civilian casualties and increased humanitarian needs, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The organization said recent attacks have claimed dozens of lives while leaving many more injured and displaced. In Kyiv, humanitarian operations were also affected after essential relief supplies stored by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) were destroyed during the violence. The lost supplies included emergency response equipment and medical aid intended for civilians affected by the conflict.
The ICRC warned that continued fighting is placing an increasing burden on communities already facing prolonged hardship. While humanitarian assistance can help address urgent needs and support recovery efforts, the organization emphasized that it cannot replace lives lost or undo the long-term impact of the conflict.
The humanitarian agency also reiterated that international humanitarian law requires all parties involved in armed conflict to take precautions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The ICRC said it will continue working alongside the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and other Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners to deliver emergency assistance, medical support and relief services to vulnerable communities across Ukraine despite the ongoing security challenges.
