India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has praised 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as a special talent ahead of the team’s T20I against Ireland in Belfast. If selected, the youngster could become India’s youngest international cricketer, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.
Sooryavanshi has attracted attention after a standout IPL season with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored heavily and hit a record number of sixes. Kotak said the teenager’s performances have shown natural ability and composure, even against top-quality pace bowling.
Despite the excitement around a possible debut, Kotak said the final decision will rest with the captain and head coach. He noted that while Sooryavanshi is an exceptional prospect, the team must also consider players who have already been performing consistently.
Kotak added that the India setup would help the teenager feel at ease if he gets his chance. He said Sooryavanshi has come across as calm and normal in the squad, and he is expected to settle in quickly whenever his opportunity arrives.
